Tips

Tip #1

Check and change your car oil regularly. Nothing will help an engine live longer more than regular oil and filter changes, just as nothing will damage an engine worse than neglecting oil-level checks and oil changes.

Tip #2

Check and change your car oil regularly. Nothing will help an engine live longer more than regular oil and filter changes, just as nothing will damage an engine worse than neglecting oil-level checks and oil changes.

Tip #3

Anything in the car with moving parts needs to be greased regularly. Poor lubrication will cause damage and eventually failure of your car parts.

Tip #4

Always keep your engine clean by washing it at least every year. You can have it professionally steam cleaned at a service centre, but make sure they protect sensitive engine components including the air intake, distributor and electrical parts with plastic bags before getting started.

Tip #5

Don’t fill your car with petrol if the gasoline tanker is filling up the tanks at the gas the station. Come back another day or go to a different station because the turbulence caused in the underground tanks as they are being filled can stir up sediment that can clog your car’s fuel filters and fuel injectors, causing unnecessary damage.

Tip #6

If you are one of those people whose car keychain is also their home and office keychain, you need to break that habit. Use a separate keychain for your car key because the weight, combined with the bouncing caused while you drive, can wear out the insides of your ignition and eventually lead to switch failure.

Tip #7

Clean the interiors and exteriors of your car regularly. Vacuum and sponge your car interiors every time you wash your car to avoid any abrasive or corrosive material from dirt particles or spilled liquids from causing any damage. You can also sponge vinyl surfaces clean with a solution of mild detergent and water.

Tip #8

Keep your car’s air-conditioning system in tiptop shape for next summer by running your AC a few times throughout the winter. This prevents clogs from forming in your compressor and will help keep the seals soft.

Tip #9

Align your car tires regularly. You can test the alignment yourself and determine whether you need to take your car to a professional and have it tested on the computer. Simply drive your car on a flat street and rest your hand on the steering wheel (for safety) without actually steering it for a few seconds. If the car veers in one direction and you need to manually keep it driving straight, then you need to make an alignment appointment with your mechanic or car care centre.

Tip #10

Keep your car records in order and do them regularly. Record your oil changing dates and your fuel consumption rates, for example. Well-kept records will help you and your mechanic to better diagnose a vehicle problem when it occurs and will prevent redundant auto repairs that waste your time and money.
